The Bird Division houses extensive research and teaching collections comprising nearly 215,000 specimens that serve as a global resource for the study of birds. These collections are cosmopolitan in scope with regional strengths from the Indian subcontinent, Neotropics, and North America. Faculty and student research within the UMMZ Bird Division centers on using genomics, morphology, ecology, and behavior to examine the origin and evolution of avian diversity.
