Therapsid reflected lamina variation Project ID: 00000C481 Public
93 Media · 88 Specimens · Managed by: Savannah Olroyd

Early therapsids had a plate of bone attached to their jaw called the reflected lamina of the angular. This bone eventually became the ectotympanic bone in mammals, and it now holds the eardrum. The original function of the reflected lamina is unknown, and its shape varies widely across the Therapsida. I am collecting surface scans of the reflected laminae of different therapsids to assess how this structure varies and try to find clues for what its function was.
