The primary objective of this research is to investigate strength and rigidity of hindlimb skeletal elements - specifically the calcaneus and navicular - in primates that are specialized for saltatory locomotion. This is done by evaluating each element's cortical bone morphology and quantifying its cross-sectional geometric properties and bone volume fraction. As part of this Morphosource project, we aim to provide open access to specimens and media that includes original raw image data derived from microCT scanning technology for each bone, the mid-diaphyseal image (or slice) from which we quantified each bone's cross-sectional geometric properties, and a 3D surface of each bone.
