Taxonomic review of the Craugastor mexicanus species series Project ID: 0000C1086 Public
97 Media · 62 Specimens · Managed by: Tom Jameson

We carried out a taxonomic review of the Craugastor mexicanus species series, a group of six direct developing frogs endemic to Mexico. Using molecular and morphometric analysis we identified six new species within the species series and resurrected one species from synonymy. Morphometric analysis revealed that one clade within the species series is miniaturised relative to the ancestral state. The mechanism of miniaturisation is paedomorphosis.
